On 7 October, 16 migrants were resettled in Malta, bringing the total to 175 so far this year. In the same period, 115 people were deported to their countries of origin.
On 4 October, ECRE published its country report on Malta, highlighting that the country’s overall first instance protection rate was 27.9% in 2023. Despite a 2022 European Court of Human Rights ruling, Malta still uses an accelerated asylum procedure that poses several challenges and living conditions in reception centers remain harsh.
