On 30 March, 76 asylum seekers were transferred to France from Cyprus as part of a programme to distribute asylum seekers across the EU. The aim is to support countries facing significant migration pressure. NB: More than 5% of the inhabitants of Cyprus are asylum seekers.
The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) published a reporton Cyprus on 7 March 2023 in which it makes recommendations for combating intolerance and racism. A section is devoted to migrant persons (III.a). ECRI urged the authorities to prioritise the elaboration of a new integration plan for migrants.
