On March 8, Alarm Phone declared on twitter that it was in contact with a boat in distress carrying 80 people on board. Among them were women and children in need of health care. The boat was in the SAR zone of Malta. Although Alarm Phone notified the Maltese and Italian authorities, the rescue took a very long time and the rescue was only carried out on 9 March by the Italian authorities.
