  • On June 25, 172 people (including 55 non-accompanied minors) were rescued off the coast of Lampedusa by the humanitarian group Salvamento Maritimo Humanitario.  
  • On June 22, around 40 migrants went missing after a shipwreck between Tunisia and Italy. They left the Tunisian port of Sfax. According to the IOM, their boat capsized between Tunisia and Lampedusa. 
  • On June 22, 50 people were in distress off Benghazi. They were finally rescued by a merchant vessel and disembarked in Pozzallo (Italy).  
  • On June 20, 50 people fleeing Libya were in distress off Lampedusa. They finally reached Italy after an exhausting journey. 
  • On June 12, MSF rescued 38 people in distress in the Central Mediterranean. On June 11, 400 people in distress south of Sicily were rescued by the Italian Coast Guard. On June 7, Alarm Phone was called by a group of 252 people, fleeing from Libya, in distress in Malta. They finally reached Lampedusa. On June 13, a boat in distress carrying 23 people fleeing from Libya was rescued to Augusta. On June 6, 150 people were reported in distress at the junction of the Italian and Greek SAR zones. 
  • On June 16, Italian authorities seized the rescue ship Aurora, operated by Sea Watch, saying the crew broke new rules that call for sea rescuers to go immediately to the port assigned to them after an operation. 
  • On June 9, Italian special forces landed on a Turkish-flagged cargo ship, after initial reports that the ship was being hijacked by a group of armed migrants. By Sunday, those reports were corrected to say the captain had asked for help after discovering migrant stowaways on board. 
  • On June 9, the Italian Red Cross announced it would deploy more staff at the ‘hotspot’ on the Sicilian island of Lampedusa. On June 8, Italy inaugurated the first assistance emergency center in Ventimiglia, on the border with France.  
  • On June 6, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni traveled to Tunisia as part of her bid to stop migrants from making their ways to Italian shores. Meloni pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Tunisian authorities in preventing migration and offered to host an international conference about irregular migration and development in Rome.
