On April 23, 2024, the upper house of the English parliament, after numerous amendments, validated the new law on the subcontracting of asylum applications promoted by Rishi Sunak’s government. According to Al Jazeera, an initial list has been drawn up of 150 people who will be deported on the first two flights to Rwanda scheduled for July 2024.
On 15 April 2024, as the British government struggles to ratify its deportation agreement to Rwanda, it is reportedly considering other third countries for the outsourcing of asylum procedures. At least 4 countries would be targeted, including Armenia, Côte d’Ivoire, Costa Rica and Botswana.
Between 14 April and 15 April 2024, around 700 people attempted to cross the English Channel. Some of these migrants were intercepted by the police. According to Utopia 56, 5 people were injured by tear gas canisters and LBD shots.
