On April 15th 2023, four migrants and a suspected trafficker died in a car crash at the border between Turkey and Greece, and six others are injured. The driver of the other car died too. They were attempting to avoid a police checkpoint.
On April 12th 2023, Greek authorities pushed back 79 migrants in the see between Greece and Turkey. The Turkish coastguards rescued them: a first life raft with 44 migrants has been saved in the Marmaris district (in Muğla province) and a second one with 35 other migrants has been rescued off the coast of Ayvalık district in Balıkesir province.
The Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum stated on 3 April 2023 that the number of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents in the country is high. Indeed, according to the latest data for March 2023 published by the Greek authorities, the country currently hosts 2,219 minors with a total capacity of 2,275 in long-term accommodation centres.
