On April 18, the Access Center for Human Rights issued a statement condemning the recent mass forced deportations of Syrian refugees by the Lebanese authorities. According to the Center, in two separate incidents the Lebanese army conducted the mass deportation of 29 Syrian refugees in Haret Al-Sakher – Jounieh and 35 Syrian refugees in Wadi Khaled in Northern Lebanon.
On April 5, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International documented that Turkish law enforcement officials sent to police the region devastated by Turkey’s February 6 earthquakes have beaten, tortured, and ill-treated individuals residing there. The organisations spoke of at least 34 men, including Syrian refugees, who faced brutal attacks by Turkish authorities after being accused of theft and looting.
