  • On 15 December, 4 bodies of suspected migrants were washed ashore in Sfax. They are believed to be among the people who have disappeared at sea in recent days. 
  • On 11 December, a boat with 130 people on board sank near Sfax. 27 people were rescued by the Tunisian coastguard, at least 9 bodies were found, and many are thought to have drowned. Another boat, which left on 2 December with 47 people on board, is still missing.
  • On 11 December, an 11-year-old girl from Sierra Leone was rescued after three days at sea. She had set off from Sfax with 44 other people a few days earlier; the rest of the passengers are thought to have died when the boat was shipwrecked during a storm.
  • On 2 December, the situation in Sfax continued to deteriorate, with people stranded in olive groves and drinking contaminated water. Children have endless skin infections and cannot be treated in hospitals, and those who are being treated cannot recover because they continue to drink the same contaminated water and are exposed to dusty environments.
