  • An NGO estimates that at least 31,404 people were expelled from Algeria to Niger in 2024, a 21% increase compared to the previous year (26,031) and a historical record. According to Alarm Phone Sahara, this rise in expulsions can partly be explained by strengthened cooperation between Maghreb countries aimed at making it more difficult for people from Niger to arrive and facilitating mass expulsions.
  • On February 5th, the Algerian Coast Guard carried out a rescue operation at sea. Among those rescued were 14 Somali nationals, including two minors, as well as a citizen from South Sudan. The survivors were taken to the port of Dellys, where medical assistance was organized. They were then transferred to the local hospital to receive the necessary care.
