On 8 April, in a statement published on the Home Office’s website, the Labour Party pledged to “thoroughly examine the merits” of all asylum applications. Following the abandonment of the deportation plan to Rwanda, the thousands of migrants concerned will now be able to apply for asylum in the UK. This concerns more than 5,000 asylum seekers who were on the list drawn up by Rishi Sunak’s government for transfer to Kigali.
