PCHR’s lawyer Nour Abu Nour and her family members killed by an Israeli airstrike in Rafah

EuroMed Rights condemns the killing of lawyer Nour Abu Nour, who was working with EuroMed Rights’ member the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, in the evening of 21 February 2024. Ms. Nour was killed along seven of her family members along with her two-year-old daughter, in an Israeli attack on her family’s home in Rafah.

Her killing comes after 137 days of Israeli bombings in Gaza, and it is one of more than 29.000 killings in the region since October 7th. It indicates that no one is safe in Gaza, including Rafah, where the majority of the population has sought refuge, and which was supposed to be a safe zone as declared by the Israeli army. Nour was forced to leave her home after Israeli warplanes damaged her house. Her fate is similar to that of thousands of other Palestinians who were illegally displaced, starved, and eventually killed. Nour had been documenting the human rights violations under Israeli occupation for PCHR since 2019, working in the Women’s Rights Unit.

We request that the EU and European states push for international accountability on the arbitrary killing of Nour and other human rights defenders, peaceful activists and journalists since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza. EuroMed Rights expresses its deepest condolences to PCHR’s staff, and to Nour’s family.
