Background
EuroMed Rights Network (EMR) seeks a research consultant to produce a research paper (between 7 – 10 pages) on the situation of youth in Egypt and to map youth civil society organisations (SCOs) both inside Egypt and abroad. The paper will support EMR’s advocacy, policy work, and program planning related to youth rights.
Objective
The consultant will produce one research paper and one database that:
- Provides a clear analysis of the current youth situation in Egypt. The analysis should focus on youth-related human rights in Egypt, with particular attention to social and economic rights, civic space and political participation, freedom of assembly and expression, and online privacy and digital rights.
- Map 15 key youth focussed, or youth led CSOs inside Egypt and abroad.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in human Rights, Law, Social Sciences, or related field,
- Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience, including work related to human rights, policy, advocacy, legal analysis, programme work, or applied research,
- Experience working in/on Egypt and human rights relate issues,
- Experience documenting human rights defenders’ cases in restrictive environments,
- Strong knowledge of Egyptian legislation and civil society context,
- Fluent in English and Arabic,
- Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills.
Scope of Work
1- Research & Analysis
- Conduct desk review and gather primary/secondary data on youth rights issues in Egypt.
- Focus on key areas such as:
- Political participation and civic space
- Human rights violations and access to justice
- Digital rights and freedom of expression
- Gender-based discrimination and youth marginalization
- Produce a maximum 10-page research paper, including key findings, youth situation analysis and recommendations
2- Mapping of Youth SCOs
- Identify and map key youth SCOs in Egypt and in the diaspora.
- Provide a concise profile of each organisation (maximum 15–20 organisations), including:
- Name and location
- Focus area
- Key activities
- Produce a spreadsheet with full organisation mapping.
