TUNIS, September 2, 2026 — On the eve of the hearing scheduled for September 3, 2026, before the Court of Cassation in the case known as the “conspiracy against state security,” EuroMed Rights reaffirms its full solidarity with Ayachi Hammami, lawyer, staunch human rights defender, and former member of its Executive Committee.
Committed for many years to the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, and fundamental freedoms, Ayachi Hammami is currently deprived of his liberty under a procedure that raises serious concerns regarding compliance with fair trial guarantees.
The case must be examined with full independence and impartiality, in accordance with the rights of the defence, the right to a fair trial and Tunisia’s international human rights obligations.
“Our solidarity extends to all those detained in this case, as well as to all those detained for their opinions and political activities in Tunisia, who are being prosecuted or deprived of their liberty for the peaceful exercise of their fundamental rights and freedoms,” said Moataz El Fegiery, President of EuroMed Rights.
On the eve of this hearing, we call for an independent and impartial justice system, respect for fair trial guarantees, and the release of all individuals detained for their opinions or for the peaceful exercise of their fundamental freedoms.
