  • The SOS Mediterranée rescue ship, Ocean Viking, brought 100 migrants to Ancona, Italy. The group included 20 unaccompanied minors and people from Eritrea, Egypt, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. After health checks and basic assistance, 30 adults will stay in Marche, while the rest, including minors, will be relocated to other regions (including Tuscany).  
  • On the 15th of March 2026, the Italian coast guard announced that 64 migrants were rescued at sea near Lampedusa, while a 2-year-old boy from Sierra Leone remains missing. Reports indicate that roughly 2,300 migrants have arrived in Italy so far in 2026.  
  • Sea-Watch 5 disembarked all 93 rescued migrants in Trapani after a standoff with Italian authorities over port access.  
  • April 1, 2026: 19 migrants were found dead near Lampedusa, Italy, after their vessel drifted for days at sea. The coastguard rescued 58.  
  • Between the 1st of January and the 8th of April 2026, 6,524 migrants reached Italy by boat, compared with 11,419 in the same period in 2025. Despite the overall decrease, arrivals continue, including 163 migrants rescued on the 8th of April 2026, after reaching Lampedusa on six boats from Libya and Tunisia.  
  • The Italian government has placed another migrant rescue vessel, the Aurora, operated by Sea-Watch, under administrative detention. The Aurora had recently rescued 44 migrants who were stranded at sea for 6 days, with Sea-Watch criticizing European authorities for delays in rescue coordination. Additionally, they face a fine ranging between €2,000 – €10,000.
