A migrant boat capsized on the Una River in western Croatia near Hrvatska Kostajnica, on the border with Bosnia, early on the 23^rd of February 2026, killing at least one person. Reports indicate seven to eight migrants, including Chinese nationals, were on board, and Bosnian man has been suspected of people smuggling.
In mid-December, a boat carrying 13 migrants capsized on the Sava River near Slavonski Brod, on the border between Bosnia and Croatia. 3 people died, while 10 individuals were rescued, some suffering from hypothermia.
Most migrants on this route come from Türkiye, Syria, and Afghanistan, with Bosnia and Herzegovina registering over 12,000 arrivals in the first 11 months of 2025.
