  • The body of a migrant was discovered in Cueta’s northern bay on the 24th of February 2026, marking the ninth death at the Spanish-Moroccan border since the start of the year. the discovery comes amid a sharp rise in crossings and harsh winter conditions that have made the route increasingly deadly.  
  • On the 6th of January 2026, a boat carrying 143 migrants off La Gomera in the Canary Islands was intercepted, resulting in one death and six hospitalizations for severe hypothermia, including three minors. Most migrants were of sub-Saharan origin. Despite adverse conditions, they were rescued and assisted by Red Cross volunteers.
