IOM Director General Amy Pope met with Tunisian President Kais Saied on 5 and 6 May. As evidenced by publications on the social network X, the two seem very proud of their exchange regarding the “voluntary return” program. The President reaffirmed his call to facilitate the so-called voluntary return of migrants, while the IOM Director praised the results achieved, declaring a “positive evolution in cooperation between Tunis and the UN agency in recent years”.
On 29 April, a boat sank off the coast of Tunisia, killing eight migrants. Of the other people, 29 were rescued.
