  • On 11 May, the NGO ResQship discovered the bodies of two children aged around three and four on board a boat close to Lampedusa that had left Libya three days earlier. Two other deaths were also reported: one person fell into the sea and another did not survive despite an attempt at resuscitation by cardiac massage. A total of 62 people were rescued. 
  • According to a May 1 report  by CNN, the Trump administration has been discussing with Libya and Rwanda the possibility of deporting migrants who are in the United States and have criminal records to those countries. In addition, Trump wants to start official talks to sign an agreement recognizing Libya as a safe third country and thus return even more asylum seekers. As human rights abuses in Libya escalate, the USA continues to ramp up measures to deter entry into Libya, regardless of the impact on the rights of those affected. 
  • On 1 May, 160 migrants were rescued in the central Mediterranean by two humanitarian ships. During one of the rescue operations, 5 people were recovered from the water after jumping from one of the Libyan coastguard boats.  
  • On Saturday 26 April, the Ocean Viking, an SOS Méditerranée humanitarian ship, rescued 126 migrants who were on a fibreglass boat without any life jackets. Among them  were a woman and ten children. On its way to the Italian coast, the ship came to the aid of 67 other people who were on board a boat that was about to capsize., 
  • The association Alarme Phone Sahara said that at least 783 people, including nationals of Niger, were deported between 28 March and 25 April from Libya in the desert to northern Niger.
