  • On 1 May, the Tahrir Institute published an article on the agreement signed between Lebanon and the EU in 2024. The funding, which is not conditional on respect for human rights, is part of a wider EU strategy to outsource migration management. Like other similar partnerships, this approach risks exacerbating violations of refugee rights. 
  • From 1 May, Lebanese nationals in Norway whose asylum claims have been definitively rejected can be returned to Lebanon, including through forced returns organised by the police. This follows the Norwegian authorities’ decision to lift the suspension of deportations to Lebanon, justified by an alleged “improvement in the security situation” in the country.
