On 09 April 2024, thanks to a popular legislative initiative that gathered more than 600,000 signatures, half a million migrants in an irregular situation in Spain could obtain a residence and work permit. The joint efforts of more than 900 civil society organisations made it possible to bring this citizen demand to the Spanish Congress, the majority of which voted in favour, with the exception of the far-right Vox party. This first institutional victory represents a major step forward in the recognition of the basic rights of thousands of people.
On April 04 2024, a court ruled in favor of a lawsuit filed in February by two Palestinian families against the British Home Office. The latter denied them their right to family reunification. The judge found that this “disproportionate interference” with the right to privacy violates the European Convention on Human Rights.
