On the weekend of February 4 2024, around 200 migrants were intercepted by the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR) as they attempted to reach the Canary Islands.
In line with the EU border externalization policy, the Moroccan authorities claim to have stopped 87,000 migrants in the course of 2023. This figure includes the Atlantic route, the Mediterranean route and the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.
