More than 120 Syrians were on board the migrant boat that sank on 14 June off the coast of Greece. The majority came from the province of Deraa in the south of the country. The “Documentation Centre of the Martyrs of Deraa”, founded by local activists, said it had identified 55 people from this province who were missing and 35 who had been rescued.
On 14 and 15 June 2023, the EU chaired the seventh Brussels conference on “Supporting the future of Syria and the region”. The conference brought together 57 countries and more than 30 international organizations. At the end of the meeting, €5.6 billion was allocated to help Syrians in Syria and neighboring countries.
