On 14 March 2023, the Danish Immigration Service declared two other government-controlled areas in Syria, Tartus and Latakia, as “safe” for the return of refugees. He noted that Syrian refugees from these areas could lose their temporary protection in Denmark and would be forced to return to Syria. As a reminder, in March 2021, Denmark withdrew the residence permits of 94 Syrian refugees after declaringDamascus and its surroundings safe in 2019.
