  • Last month, Cyprus relocated 76 Afghan and Syrian asylum seekers to France “under a European Union program to ease the burden on Mediterranean countries receiving large numbers of migrants,” according to what declared by the Interior Ministry. A total of 210 people has been relocated to other EU countries, including Germany, Bulgaria and Romania.
  • According to Cyprus’ Interior Minister, a total of 490 per cent increase in asylum seekers has been registered in Cyprus since 2016. To face such numbers, the Minister called for “the implementation of a European Union action plan for the Eastern Mediterranean”.
