On August 1 2025, a report published by the Access Center for Human Rights (ACHR) warned of an increase in violence against Syrians in Lebanon. Under the pretext of “voluntary returns,” raids were carried out by the Lebanese army and police throughout the country in July. Refugees were subjected to forced deportations and mass arrests amid rising xenophobic and discriminatory rhetoric.
On July 29 2025, more than 100 refugees of Syrian origin benefited from “voluntary returns” promoted by the UN agencies IOM and UNHCR. This group left the Bekaa Valley for Syria. As a reminder, Lebanon has taken in up to 1.5 million Syrian refugees since 2011.
