  • 39 people have been rescued and 9 have died in the Strait of Sicily. As reported by ANSA on 7 October 2025, the humanitarian vessel Humanity 1 operated by SOS Humanity carried out the rescue operation on 3 October, but seven people had already drowned by the time of its arrival. The surviving migrants – most of them fleeing the war in Sudan, according to the NGO – were brought to Porto Empedocle.
  • As reported by ANSA on 30 September 2025, Italian government officials and a group of Christian organizations have signed an agreement to establish a humanitarian corridor for 1000 refugees in Lebanon to come to Italy over the course of 3 years.   
  • Three top Italian government officials have been accused of aiding Libyan warlord Osama Al-Masri Njeem in avoiding prosecution, as reported by politico on 26 September 2025. Al-Masri is accused of 22 rapes and 36 murders and holds an ICC arrest warrant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Yet, following his arrest in January in Turin, he was released after only 48 hours. Now, two Italian government ministers and a cabinet secretary are being investigated for their role in his release. On October 9, the Italian parliament voted on whether their parliamentary immunity from prosecution should be waived.
