As reported by InfoMigrants, on 22 September 2025 Spanish authorities rescued 198 people arriving on a small wooden boat close to the Canary Islands. Days before, Spanish Maritime Rescue services had rescued 50 migrants off the coast of Lanzarote. As the continued arrival of migrants puts pressure on local resources and services, the Balearic government has urged a review of national redistribution policies and called for a clearer strategy to manage unaccompanied minors arriving by sea.
