  • On 28 May, in a port in the Canary Islands, a boat capsized with about 160 migrants on board. Seven people lost their lives, including three minors aged between 7 and 16. Eight others were hospitalized, including an infant and a pregnant woman.
  • On 23 May, the EPP (European People’s Party) parliamentary group called for the deployment of Frontex in the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.  The group called on Pedro Sánchez to make an official request to the EU. According to them, these “Spanish” cities must be “secured” with the same means used in other parts of the EU.
  • Following proven violence (injuries, threats, harassment, humiliating treatment, etc.), on 19 May, the Spanish justice system  demanded the closure of the Emena La Fortaleza I centre for unaccompanied minors  on the island of Gran Canaria. The 43 minors who were in this center will therefore be rehoused in other structures of the archipelago’s reception network.
