  • On 22 October 2025, officials from six Balkan countries met with British and European leaders in London to discuss issues surrounding migration, security and economic growth, as reported by The Independent. The participating Western Balkan countries included Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Furthermore, Germany’s Chancelor Friedrich Merz and the European Union Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas also attended the meeting. Following the meeting, UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer announced sanctions for criminal networks involved in smuggling people through the Balkan Route.
