Amman – Copenhagen – Brussels, 6 March / March 2014 – on the occasion of International Women’s Day (the eighth of March / March), issued the Euro – Mediterranean Human Rights today its regional entitled ” Violence against women in the context of political changes and economic crisis in the Euro – Mediterranean : patterns and recommendations in order to achieve equality and justice “ .
The report warns that violence against women has seen a sharp escalation in the Euro – Mediterranean region in recent years, and highlights the main patterns of violence against women, and that through the presentation of case studies from Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Libya, France, Cyprus and Spain.
The report also stresses on the worrying increase in incidents of sexual violence and its intensity in countries such as Libya, Syria and Egypt, which reaches to the level of sexual terror. In Egypt, have been women who participated in the demonstrations to systematic harassment, and they seem planned, and gang rapes in Tahrir Square. As women and girls are trafficked Syrian and sexual exploitation in refugee camps.
